Faucets that use ceramic cartridges do not become stiff versus a compression faucet that eventually does.
Ceramic cartridge going stiff.
Compression faucets use o rings to create a watertight seal inside the faucet.
As you twist the faucet s handles the turning of the valve stem increases or decreases the flow of water through the faucet.
Because internal ceramic plates move to control the water flow not exterior o rings and the unit must be replaced.
No modification to the actual circuitry is needed.
Other times there is a rubber brass or ceramic seat in the bottom of the cartridge opening which is actually forming the seal.
Foxinsox wrote hi all just thought i d share a tip if anyone is looking for a cheap and easy phono preamp that is suitable for ceramic cartridges.
The brass and rubber can no longer fit properly into the hole in the cartridge cylinder and it can leak.
These consist of the mounts for the ceramic reeds and especially the bridge which transmits vibrations from the cantilever to the reeds.

These parts can become damaged by the movement of the cartridge as it opens and closes.
Wide spread faucets are common.
Ceramic cartridges are designed for a 3 10g weight as opposed to the older types working under pressure at 28g ouch.
Plus you would need to preamplify the cartridge and cobble something to remove weight from the tone arm.
I posted a simple preamplifier using a single transistor.
