Last night our ceramic tile in the hallway was making loud popping noises.

The constant on off flow of electricity can sometimes loosen a light bulb in the socket.
If so replace the bulb.
Check the light bulb first to see if it has burned out.
Now the tile feels hollow when i walk on it and it sounds like broken glass underneath.
That noise you hear is weathering not settling.
Check the metal socket tab in the bottom center of the socket.
Some bulbs mention on their packaging that they are designed to work well with dimmers.
1 the popping noise can either be caused by loose wires or a faulty splice inside the box.

We hear loud cracking or popping sounds usually three or four in succession.
If that doesn t end the sound replace the dimmer.
